Charmain grew up amongst four brothers and two sisters and was considered a creative soul who was always finding ways to pass the time. From a very young age, she expressed cultural interests, perhaps as a result of cultural influence in the household from her mother.
From the age of 12 years old, Charmain started to play netball, a popular sport that was embedded in Nevisian Culture. She then developed a trade-in haircare and became a sort of hairdresser in her village. Her skills and talent in this area were evident in the many jobs she received to work as a hairdresser and beautician for many pageant contestants.Charmain’s creative nature blossomed into costume designs, channeling her passion for Culturama.
Indeed Charmain was ambitious. Upon graduating high school, she formed her first of many troupes, which was called “The Mango Tree Bar, Cream of the Crop.”
A troupe from Charmain Stevens Norford means a troupe that is diverse, colorful, and inclusive. Charmain was the costume designer, logistic manager, and choreographer for all the troupes that she created. She was hands-on.
Adding to her cultural portfolio, in 2013, Charmain began her tenure as a Cultural Arts Officer at the Nevis Cultural Development Foundation, where she teaches Cakewalk and Maypole dance. Even during her spare time, she has appreciated culture as a part of her culinary skills, where she is known to make certain treats and drinks from local produce.
Charmain Stevens Norford is a mother. Though she has three (3) biological children, she is an enforcer, businesswoman, and role model. A culturally creative and passionate woman who is dedicated to the promotion of culture and community awareness.
