The People's Action Movement on Wednesday announced Chesley Hamilton as the candidate for constituency number 8 in the upcoming general elections. His candidature was announced by PAM leader Shawn Richards via a Facebook post.
Shawn Richards stated that he called Chesley a fighter who is dedicated to his service. He also referred to him as a man "whose loyalty is unquestioned,".
"Chesley is true, from off the bat, one of the highest calibre candidates in this upcoming election," he further stated.
Chesley Hamilton is replacing Eugene Hamilton for constituency number 8, and PAM also declared to announce a new candidate from constituency number three.
"His work among people, especially in the last 20 years, as a lawyer is well known. His passion for this country and the well-being of its people is beyond reproach," said Richards
Furthermore, Shawn Richards stated that Chesley Hamilton's link to the community is solid, and his intellect is from the top drawer.
"In his work as a lawyer, he has consistently advocated and fought for the tenets of good governance and accountability to be observed. Chesley - welcome to the team. Let's get to work," Richards concluded.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris, dissolved the parliament on May 10, 2022, and called for fresh elections. He also fired six ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards and Foreign Affairs Minister Mark Brantley.
As the parliament of St Kitts and Nevis is now dissolved, the elections must be held before August 7, 2022. The Team Unity coalition, which comprised of People's Labour Party (PLP), Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) and People's Action Movement (PAM) is now left as an alliance of only two parties, CCM and PAM.
Before the dissolution of parliament, the majority of parliament representatives had expressed a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister, demanding him to resign from his position. Prime Minister is accused of unfair distribution of citizenship by investment revenues to the sister island.
