Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: The Chief Medical Officer of St Kitts and Nevis stated that around 622 people have received booster shots since the country launched its COVID-19 booster programme in early November for those who qualify.
Dr Cameron Wilkinson, Medical Chief of Staff at the Joseph Nathaniel France (JNF) General Hospital, shared the vaccination statistics during Wednesday's edition of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) COVID-19 press conference.
"We have given boosters to 622 people as of this evening [December 01]." Since we began delivering the boosters, about 50 people have come forward per day, with a total of 93 people receiving the extra protection today," said Dr Wilkinson.
He emphasized that the majority of the population requested booster shots, which showed that the public is now vigilant and understands the benefit of vaccination, "People have been willingly requesting booster doses to provide themselves an extra layer of protection against this dangerous illness."
While adults benefit from the added protection, Dr Wilkinson believes it is also critical to protect the great majority of youngsters aged 12 to 17 with the vaccination that was developed.
St Kitts and Nevis is vaccinating youngsters using the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Dr Wilkinson asked parents to get their kids registered for the vaccination, and he assured them that the vaccine is safe and does not have any major side effects.
