Guyana: A 19-year-old motorcyclist dies in a road accident in Region 9
A young motorcyclist lost his life in Guyana after an overspeeding car rammed into him at the Tabatinga Bridge Central, Rupununi, in Region Nine on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Alex Ferreira of Culvert City Central Rupununi. As per the police, the suspect Walter Martin, 59, was taken into custody. He was driving a hired car bearing registration number HC 2059. A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver alcohol was detected. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
The cops stated that the driver of hire car HC 2059 was proceeding north along the western side of Tabatinga Public Road at an alleged 20kmph and, on approaching a nearby bridge, he observed motorcycle CK 2076 approaching from the opposite direction in a reckless manner and at a fast rate of speed.
Upon seeing the motorcar, Ferreira applied brakes and subsequently lost control, where he collided with the front right side of the motorcar. As a result of the collision, he fell onto the road surface, which caused him to receive injuries to his body.
However, he was later picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to Lethem Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is presently lying in the Lethem Regional Hospital Mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.Incidents of road accidents are increasing in Guyana as people continue to drive overspeeding vehicles. Besides this, a lack of stringent traffic rules is a major cause of road accidents.
