Guyana has started vaccinating children against the COVID-19 by using the Pfizer vaccine. Under the new category, everyone 12 or above is eligible to take the jab.
People are already very sceptical about getting their children vaccinated due to possible risks.
On Tuesday, a 13-year-old teenager in Guyana also received her 1st shot of the Pfizer vaccine at the Parika Salem Secondary School. As per reports, after receiving the vaccine in the afternoon, the kid started to feel uneasy and fainted.Authorities took the kid to the Leonora Hospital, where doctors placed her on oxygen. However, as per official statements, the child is doing fine and was discharged soon after the admission. She is now in good condition, resting at home. The cause of the incident is not clear, but it is believed that the child suffered from some pre-existing medical conditions which were not revealed by her parents prior to the vaccine.
After the incident, the child's mother herself went to the vaccination centre and received her shot as well.
Following the occurrence, the Ministry of Health released a statement and advised all parents to mention their child's medical condition to the vaccination provider. The vaccination series is two doses given three weeks apart. If a person receives one dose of the vaccine, they must take a second dose of the vaccine three weeks later to complete the process. Authorities asked parents to encourage their children to get vaccinated to protect them from the severe forms of COVID 19 disease.
