Atlantic: Hurricane Sam has peaked in intensity and is expected to remain a major hurricane in the Atlantic ocean for several days, said National Hurricane Centre.
Hurricane Sam is a powerful category 4 storm, and according to forecasters, it has peaked to intensity. Sam was centred well off the land, located about 850 miles east-southeast of the north of the Leeward Islands, the NHC further said in an advisory. It was driving northwest at 7 mph.
The hurricane has maximum sustained winds of 145 mph, placing it on Category 4 hurricane. However, the forecast also states that the hurricane would see fluctuations in its strength over the next few days, followed by very slow weakening.
