250 dollar tequila named "TeslaTequila" launched by Elon Musk

Friday, 6th November 2020

Tesla Inc Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk executed good on his commitment to selling "Tesla Tequila" - two years after ridiculing the idea in a tweet, and the $250 bottles immediately rushed off the virtual shelf.

Pictures unveiled a smooth, lightning bolt-shaped bottle, a lot distinctive than what Musk tantalised when he promoted the Tequila.

The Silicon Valley billionaire is no outsider to marketing quirky products in short one-time purchases.

He sold flamethrowers at $500 apiece in early 2018, allocating $10 million for his high-speed tunnel initiative for The Boring Company. Musk has also successfully sold 50,000 Boring Company caps earlier.

He tweeted the concept of 'Teslaquila' on April Fool's day in 2018, which many of his supporters thought to be a joke.

However, Musk's attempts to trademark the drink in October of that year were glared upon by Mexico's tequila producers.

Mexico's Tequila Regulatory Council had at the event showed the "name 'Teslaquila' invokes the word Tequila ... (and) Tequila is a piece of protected information."

According to the website, Tesla Tequila will be possible only in elected U.S. states, including New York, California and Washington.

The website explains the spot, produced by Nosotros Tequila, as agave tequila añejo matured in French oak barrels, "featuring a dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish."
