50% of Dominican population will get COVID-19 vaccine when arrived as government talks with World Bank

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit's weekly Anou Palay episode was presented on Sunday evening, where he discussed the new parliament sitting from Monday onwards, coronavirus and international airport.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that as the coronavirus cases in Dominica are going up, citizens are advised to follow all the health guidelines, including the wearing of face masks in public places, sanitising hands.

Dr Skerrit stated in respect to the vaccine that Dominica is working with the world bank to identify some resources. He stated that when vaccines come to the shelf countries like Dominica does not get the easy access to the vaccine. But, the country is working on getting the vaccine for fifty percent of the population when the coronavirus vaccine is in place.

He also stated the country is ready to test half of the population.

Prime Minister asserted that Dominica had managed the situation of pandemic very well, but the assistance from the public is required.

He cautioned people if citizens do not comply with all the health protocols, then he has to take stringent actions and get parliamentary approval to set impositions on activities and behaviour in public. However, he stated that we are not at a point where wearing face masks in public places should be mandatory, but everyone should follow the health protocols.

"We have to bring a greater order in hosting activities in public, there will be a new application process which will be mandatory in order to make any public activities," added Dr Roosevelt Skerrit.
