Will not make any outlandish statements to sound politically attractive, says PM Skerrit
Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit will be presenting the budget for the financial year 2019-2020 on Tuesday 30th of July. He said the National Budget will be over one billion dollars which will focus on building Dominica.

Roseau- 29 July 2019: Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit will be presenting the budget for the financial year 2019-2020 on Tuesday 30th of July. He said the National Budget will be over one billion dollars which will focus on building Dominica.
Prime Minister said the budget will mainly focus on healthcare and education in the country and this budget is 20 million dollars more than the previous year’s budget. The budget which will be presented in the parliament on Tuesday is going to play a significant role in upcoming general elections that are due by 2020.
While speaking regarding the budget of Dominica, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit also said that new provisions have been made in this year’s budget for the continuation of the housing revolution.
It is notable that under the housing project, the government provides free homes to people who lost their houses in Hurricane Maria
He also stated that “Constitutionally elections are due on May 2020, so therefore, the outer date for the elections to be held in Dominica will fall within the upcoming financial year.”
In addition to that, he said, “We continue to be responsible in what we do. So, even though it’s an election year, we are not going to make outlandish statements and commitments just to sound politically attractive.”
Skerrit also said that if the government doesn’t step in to provide a home for many families in this country they would not be able to build a resilient home and government has articulated a very clear vision for this country that is to create the world’s first climate-resilient nation.
