A stationary trough over the Dominican Republic could bring downpours today in areas where the soil is already saturated from heavy rains this week.
The National Weather Office (Onamet) says Duarte, (Lower Yuna), Puerto Plata, Barahona and Santiago provinces have the most saturated soils, and are also under a flash flooding alert.
In a statement, Onamet said: “For today, the frontal system will begin to weaken, however, will continue the downpours, being moderate to strong at times with thunderstorms and occasional gusts of wind in much of the national territory, as a consequence of the cloud remnants associated with it, in addition to the local effects of the country.”
Downpours will be more intense over the northeast, southeast, southwest, Central Mountains and border area, the organisation added, while flash flooding warnings were issued for 12 provinces.
