Dominica: The leader of the opposition United Workers Party, Dr Thompson Fontaine is following the path of the former leader Lennox Linton to disrupt the ongoing development in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
While speaking during a local radio show, Fontaine was heard taking a strong stance against the ongoing construction of Dominica's new international airport, which is anticipated to benefit the country and its citizens significantly.
Both Fontaine and Linton addressed the show and announced their intention to halt the project through all necessary means.
Linton also expressed his ideas to take the matter to the court but because of unavailability of any evidence he is not able to do so. He stated that his party is seeking for a declaration from the court which is why Dr Fontaine has indicated 'we are going to court.'
Linton's statements showcase his continuous efforts to disrupt development in Dominica as his recent claims of UWP being prepared to take legal action to halt the airport's construction during the show proves his evil intentions against the country and its people.
According to the critiques Linton's motives are politically driven and that his claims are usually baseless. In spite of government's ongoing recovery from Hurricane Maria and Tropical Storm Erice, the focus of UWP has shifted from making any recovery efforts to opposing critical infrastructural projects in Dominica.
This is not the first time that Lennox Linton and other members of UWP have made attempts to defame the country. This has been happening over the years with Linton being found having hands in several reports released against Dominica and also in corruption practices.
This clearly shows that Linton and the UWP members are not against the international airport but are against any type of development taking place in the country.
The critics have also said that if UWP becomes successful this time, the damage will be equal to a nuclear bomb and will impact the livelihoods of the citizens severely.
Not only this, but Dominica's opposition party was also seen launching a useless campaign named 'Do Nothing.' Launched in March 2024, the campaign asked the citizens and residents to stay idle and do nothing, asking them to be lethargic and not engage in any type of hard work.
This showed the party wanted people to be like them that is lethargic and slothful. The campaign faced a major backlash from the Dominicans, pushing the UWP to plan such things which will affect them in the long run.
