The opposition has called on the Health Minister Terrance Deyalsingh to investigate the news of some senior doctors losing their jobs because of management decisions.
United National Congress stated that there are claims that some senior medical doctors at the Couva Medical hospital have been forced out of their jobs for questioning allegedly bad and potentially dangerous management decisions of senior officials at the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA).
The opposition stated that they (UNC) have been informed that senior doctors handling various positions, including the Chief of Staff, Head of ICU, Head of Nephrology, Head of Medicine, Infectious Disease Specialist, Nephrologist and Pulmonologist have been forced to leave their jobs.
The party stated that senior medical professionals had voiced serious concerns over management decisions; however, they were transferred out of their critical positions for doing so.
"Instead of heeding these qualified, dedicated, frontline medical experts, however, the UNC was told that they were treated with vindictiveness, hubris and spite by certain political appointees in the NCRHA management, and unceremoniously pressured and transferred out of their critical positions" stated the United National Congress.
United National Congress stated that the medical doctors have been assisting the country fight the serious health challenges caused by the pandemic at Couva Hospital. The opposition stated that they could not publish their identities due to some dangerous elements.
The opposition claimed that the alleged transfer of the medical officials has contributed to the country's health crisis. UNC asked the government to investigate the claims and take actions on NCRHA's management if found guilty of their actions.
