TT Attorney General Al-Rawi apologizes for not wearing mask at event

Trinidad and Tobago: After being confronted for violating COVID-19 protocols, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Faris Al-Rawi, said on Wednesday that he attended a private meeting of 10 persons in the room. He also backfired on Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar saying that she has a passion for him since 11 years.

“Opposition had to say something against the government,” he added while replying to the questions asked by media.

During the distribution ceremony of lease letters for agriculture land at Marabella, Al-Rawi said that he should have followed the protocols, whether it was a very small gathering and apologized by saying that he must have acted better in this situation.

Replying to opposition senator, Wade Mark who urged the Prime Minister to fire Al-Rawi for flouting COVID-19 norms. Al-Rawi said that Mark is not someone he takes seriously in any form or fashion. He accused the senator of not making sense while speaking most of the times.

However, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley also expressed disappointment from the Attorney General for disregarding COVID-19 guidelines and said that people who are holding any government office must set an example for the people by following all guidelines issued by the government.

Additionally, one of his colleague, Clarence Rambharat, also made fun of AG by labelling him the most popular Attorney General of the country, who pushed people to wear the mask more than anyone else.

Putting up the slogan, “Fire Faris” Opposition Leader had noted that errant government ministers in other countries were swiftly dealt with after breaking COVID-19 laws. She also accused Prime Minister for having a soft heart for AG, who appeared in a game show without wearing a mask.

She added that Prime Minister had defended the Attorney General in all ways he could and, on the other hand, referred Bermuda government which expelled two of its ministers for flouting COVID-19 rules.
