65 passengers killed as moving train caught fire in Pakistan

A train traveling in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province caught fire after a cooking gas stove erupted. As per officials, 65 passengers lost their lives in the fire incident.

The fire was so extreme that the flames roared through the train cars as the train reached the town of Liaquatpur in Punjab.

After this incident questions are being raised on Pakistan’s rail system.

Deputy Commissioner Jamil Ahmed said that the death toll has risen steadily since the fire incident. He said that the fire broke out when breakfast was being prepared for passengers on board.

Ahmed told the media that several other passengers jumped off from the burning train to save their lives and most of the deaths occurred when the jumped off the escape the flames

As per Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, poor passengers often bring their own small gas stoves to cook the meal on the train because rules are lesser likely to be followed in the overcrowded trains.

Rescue workers and inspectors sifted through the charred wreckage, looking to aid the survivors and a train has been dispatched to bring them to the city of Rawalpindi.

Nevertheless, investigations are undergoing to identify the victims said an official.
