Trinidad: Brother-in-law of murdered mother shot dead during her funeral

Trinidad and Tobago: The police officials in Claxton, Trinidad, are investigating the murder of Sham Bridgelal, brother-in-law of the late Crystal Harricharan. It is being reported that Bridgelal was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting while attending Crystal's wake.

The incident took place at Boodoo Trace Extension, Union Village in Claxton Bay, early on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

According to a source, "The recent murder was in connection with Crystal, who was shot on Tuesday at Jarvis Street." He also said that there are false rumours about an intimate relationship between both of them.

It is being said that more information on this incident will be provided soon after preliminary investigations.

It is to be noted that 35-year-old Crystal Harricharan, a mother of two, was shot to death while in her vehicle at Jarvis Street in Vistabella earlier this week. She has also been seeking police protection for the last few months because of continuous threats from a neighbour who forced her to leave her own residence and stay at a friend's place.

The murder is believed to have stemmed from a dispute over parking, which she encountered with a neighbour on December 31, 2023, who since then has been threatening and attacking her by various means.

The relatives of Crystal are still blaming the police officials for her death as they didn't pay attention to her request for protection.

Meanwhile, the citizens and residents of Trinidad and Tobago have expressed their condolences to both the victims and are calling this incident 'depressing'. "The only word to describe what's going on in this country is depressing. Condolences to the family," wrote a user named Ashmeed Ali Boucas, while another user said, "I see no reason to come back to Trinidad and Tobago. It has become a wicked place of merciless barbaric criminals just killing innocent people...like police afraid of bandits ."
