According to a new report by CheapOair on US travel trends, the Bahamas and Jamaica are seeing significant jumps in flight bookings. The report by the online travel agency showed that the Bahamas and Jamaica saw the largest increase in airline tickets for any international destination.
Overall, U.S. travellers nearly doubled bookings at foreign destinations in April, the company said.
'Vaccinations are still on the rise in the US, so the American consumer is becoming more confident when it comes to travel. This, coupled with the strict hygiene protocols established by airlines and airports worldwide, is arousing increasing interest in booking plane tickets to world destinations," said Glenn Cusano, co-CEO and chief financial officer of Fareportal, the parent company of CheapOair and One Travel.
The Bahamas increased by 203 percent in flight bookings in April compared to January, while Jamaica jumped 143 percent in flight bookings in the same period.
The Dominican Republic experienced an increase of 134 percent, while Puerto Rico's bookings increased by 13 percent.
"The most recent information from the CDC shows that 58.5 percent of Americans have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine," Cusano said. "This is an increase of 79 percent compared to just over one month ago. Air travel numbers are moving upwards, and we expect to see them increase as summer approaches in the northern hemisphere."
