Taiwan to give $600,000 support to St Kitts and Nevis for COVID vaccine

The Republic of China (Taiwan) has promised to support St. Kitts and Nevis’ attempt to obtain additional COVID-19 vaccines once they become possible under the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access Facility (COVAX).

Taiwan to give $600,000 support to St Kitts and Nevis for COVID vaccine
The Republic of China (Taiwan) has promised to support St. Kitts and Nevis’ attempt to obtain additional COVID-19 vaccines once they become possible under the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access Facility (COVAX).

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws stated that the agreement was made by Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador, His Excellency Tom Lee, during an appointment to the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

“The Republic of China (Taiwan) is advancing a very ample donation to the Federation of US$600,000 towards the obtainment of vaccines,” Dr. Laws declared through the National Emergency Operations Centre COVID-19 briefing.

She continued that St. Kitts and Nevis earlier made the wanted down payment to the COVAX arrangement to make enough vaccines available to cover 20 percent of the population in the primary platforms.

Taiwan has been a reliable partner in St. Kitts and Nevis’ war against the novel coronavirus.

Taiwan has been in good relations with St Kitts and Nevis and always stood beside in assisting the Caribbean nation in difficulties.

The ROC previously made funds available for personal protective equipment (PPE) to St Kitts and Nevis government. The kits included ventilators, N-95 facemasks, thermal camera sets, thermal forehead temperature guns, protective clothing, isolation clothing, and several testing machines.

The neighboring island Dominica's Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit had stated that his administration is looking forward to compiling resources to get coronavirus vaccine for Dominica and 50 percent of the population will be vaccinated once the COVID-19 vaccine becomes available to them.

Several countries have started mass vaccinations after the United Kingdom started to immunize its population on December 8, 2020.

Following the UK, the United States of America, Israel, India are among major countries that are currently vaccinating their populations with Pfizer/Biotech and also modern vaccine.

India has also approved its own vaccination for emergency uses, and private clinics in Brazil have come out in an agreement to use the Indian made coronavirus vaccine.
