The major North American airline, Delta Airlines, is all set to resume services to Barbados after a halt of eight years. The airline will begin its services in November 2024 to ease travellers during the holiday season.
The Minister of Tourism of Barbados, Ian Gooding Edghill, announced the development during a press conference on Saturday.
He said that starting from November 21, 2024, Delta will provide a seven-day-a-week service from Atlanta, Georgia, and a once weekly (Saturdays only) from New York commencing December 23, 2024.
The addition of these services is expected to improve the flying opportunities to Barbados. It is also to be noted that both services are anticipated to operate until April 2025.
Schedule of Delta Airline's flights to Barbados
According to the information, the new daily service of Delta Airlines from Atlanta to Barbados will be operated through the 737-900 aircraft. It is schedule to depart at 9 45 am and will arrive at 3 40 pm in Barbados.
Meanwhile, the return flight from Barbados will be departing at 4 40 pm and will arrive in Atlanta at 9 pm.
On the other hand, the Saturday-only flight from John F Kennedy Airport will depart at 8:15 am while it will arrive in Barbados at 2 pm. The return leg of the flight will depart the island at 3 25 pm and will arrive in New York at 7 35 pm.
Delta services has the potential to grow in future
This Delta service which at first will be seasonal has the potential to grow into a more year round service.
Minister Gooding-Edghill considers this resumption by Delta as a sure sign of the airline's confidence in the future of its services to Barbados.
He added that it strengthens the island's ability to leverage its connection with Atlanta as a hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the United States. This will provide easy connections with the South and Midwest states in the USA.
The Tourism Minister also outlined the benefits of this flight and said, "Another advantage to this new Delta service will be the access to the premium business class seats for passengers, especially from New York, a facility which we've long sought when put together."
He further stated that the resumption of this Delta service is evidence of the success of Barbados' ongoing program to grow the USA market through strategic expansion of gateways in critical points to build seamless connectivity with Barbados for travellers from the improving USA market.
