St Lucia: PM Allen Chastanet and his wife receives the coronavirus vaccine on live tv

St Lucia has begun the first phase of the coronavirus vaccine. Prime Minister Allen Chastanet received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine's first dose on a live telecast at the National Television Network (NTN). Prime Minister was joined by his wife and several front-line workers in the country's vaccine drive. "My wife and I joined in on the Vaccination drive as a form of support to help build confidence in those who may be skeptical about being vaccinated," stated PM Chastanet on his Facebook. He stated administering the first vaccines is a great milestone for public health officials in reducing the COVID-19 outbreak. He noted the first person to receive the first dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine in Saint Lucia was Principal Nursing Officer Julietta Cassius. The latter shared her own experiences on the front-line of the COVID-19 war. "Protecting our Frontliners also means that we are protecting all Saint Lucians because they are the ones who are really at the forefront of fighting this battle," stated St Lucian Prime Minister. St Lucia is conducting the vaccine rollout under the slogan of "Vaccinate for you, for yours, and us. Prime Minister emphasized that getting the coronavirus vaccine is voluntary, and it is also free. Over the next few days, more health care workers and high-risk persons will receive their first dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine. Saint Lucia’s COVID-19 vaccine deployment will have a three-phased approach, targeting priority groups first, based on the level of exposure and risk. St Lucia has received 2000 doses of vaccine from Dominica and around 1000 from vaccine to immunize. St Lucia is struggling to control the quickly increasing infections as the country has more than 2500 confirmed cases of the infection and over 23 virus-related deaths. Prime Minister Allen Chastanet’s government relies on vaccine contributions from its sister nations. St Lucia has not been able to appropriate its mutual relations with other countries to provide the vaccine for its more extensive community.
