St Lucia Labour Party to complete 100 days in govt on November 13

St Lucia: Prime Minister Philip J Pierre led St Lucia government is all set to observe its hundred days in the government on November 13, 2021. Since the swearing of ministers on August 5, 2021, the Labour party led administration has moved swiftly in meeting key government departments and multilateral institutions to stabilize the economy and successfully managing the COVID-19 in the country, said the Office of Prime Minister. Despite the difficult fiscal situation in the country, Prime Minister Pierre's leadership and highly regarded managerial acumen have been put to good use in recent months. Government efforts are currently paying off with some early campaign promises and other targeted interventions materializing and impacting the lives of thousands of Saint Lucians. Some of the measures prioritized by the government included the following: payment of facility fees for all elementary and middle school students at a cost of $2.6 million; the Educational Assistance Program that assisted students with books, uniforms, food allowances and other stationery for a total of $ 1.8 million; the improvement in the COVID-19 testing capacity by the Ezra Long Laboratory up to 5 times; increased distribution and increased monthly records of COVID-19 vaccine absorption; the successful management of the fourth wave and the deadly delta variant that severely impacted the world, resulting in lower infection rates and relaxed but monitored protocols; the protection of X-ray machines, oxygen concentrators, communication systems and other much-needed equipment for hospitals, including the Victoria Respiratory Hospital; the appointment of Patient Welfare Officers to support the nursing staff; the negotiated return of Virgin Atlantic flights; obtaining $10 million for a National Housing Project that will renovate hundreds of homes for deserving citizens; expanding the allocation of resources to the police, which included an increase in the number of full-time special police officers and obtaining additional vehicles to assist in citizen security. A complete list of accomplishments and work completed during the first one hundred (100) days in office will be provided to the public next week. Additionally, Saint Lucians should expect to see several new initiatives designed to provide citizens with much-needed relief and opportunities in the days ahead.

The Prime Minister is also expected to address the nation shortly for the first 100 days in office.
