St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party to elect new national leader on November 28

Basseterre: The tussle between leaders of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party is catching the fire in a race to become National Leader of the 89-year-old party as it convenes its Annual National Conference on November 28, 2021.

There are top three frontrunners for the position, Dr Geoffrey Hanley from Constituency number 1; Konris Maynard from Constituency number 3 and Dr Terrance Drew from Constituency number 8. The claims to become the political leader of the oldest party in the country began when Dr Denzil Llewellyn Douglas announced that he would step down from the top position after serving the country for over 32 years. Two out of three candidates have already initiated their campaign in the country, which is clearly visible on their social media platform as well as their personal meetings with the people to grab the support on the November 28 mandate of executive elections.

However, the political scenario is not as simple as it looks in St Kitts and Nevis as Dr Douglas and Chairman of SKNLP, Dr Terrance Drew, had a dispute earlier over the leadership of the party, which led Dr Douglas to announce his step-down. Nevertheless, Dr Douglas is not openly giving statements against Dr Drew, but he has earlier said that Dr Hanley and Maynard are his options for the political throne of Labour in St Kitts.

Amid this, Douglas announced that he declined his nomination in advance of the balloting that place in November. “I would not hope to be on the ballot,” he asserted during an interview last month.
