St Kitts and Nevis: The National Housing Corporation (NHC) has announced that the first phase of the Wellington Road Housing Complex has been completed.
The Wellington Roads complex, Public Infrastructure Minister Shawn Richards said: "I think this construction project is bringing houses to the people of East Basseterre in particular is extremely important." He continued, "If one has to think of the type of houses you have had here before, these houses can be described as substandard. The Team Unity administration at the time made a commitment to provide better housing for the persons in St Kitts in general and in particular for the persons in East Basseterre. He added: "This housing project represents the fulfilment of the specific commitment, and because I was able to tour through the houses we have here (Wellington Road), I recognize that it is of a high standard."
Eugene Hamilton, Minister for Human Settlements with responsibility for the NHC, added: "we have already built 24 units; there are still a few to be built on the western side, and these 34 and those on the western side were jointly funded between the government of St Kitts and Nevis and the Bolivian Republic of Venezuela.""We expect construction to continue on the other side within the next eight to nine months, which will then give us more units that we can offer to individuals," said Minister Hamilton.
"I want to thank the people who contributed, the contractors, those who provided the money, and those who will work to make sure this project is as 'homely' as possible," said Minister Hamilton.Latest
