‘Relatively quiet’ J’ouvert 2017, say Grenada police

The police in Grenada have reported that the J’ouvert 2017 celebrations didn’t result in any major incidents for the force.

The only thing officers dealt with were “a few minor incidents and a few infractions of the law”.

In a statement, the Royal Grenada Police Force thanked the general public for their continued support and urged people to continue to exercise caution during the remainder of the festive season.

“We are also appealing to all motorists and other users of the road, to make road safety a priority to avoid injuries, loss of lives and damage to properties,” they said.

“The RGPF is deeply concerned with the number of accidents that have recently occurred and wishes to remind motorists that it is important to make safe decisions while driving and be mindful that negative behaviour.”

The “negative behaviour” includes driving while intoxicated, texting behind the wheel, speeding and driving without wearing a seatbelt.

Motorists are reminded to look out for potholes, slippages as well as road closure warning signs, the police added, and cyclists should wear protective gear.

Pedestrians are also urged to observe road safety rules.
