St Kitts: 24 students graduate under reinstated MAGIC Programme, PM Drew applauds

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew honoured the children who graduated from the Joshua Obadiah Primary School under the reinstated MAGIC Programme. The programme, which includes Mentoring, Advising, Guiding and Instructing Children, is being run at all the schools nationwide.

A total of 24 students were honoured during the brief ceremony held at the Explorers Headquarters in Molineux on Thursday, February 01, 2024 to mark the first graduates of this programme since its introduction. According to the information, the MAGIC Programme was reintroduced in September 2023 in the primary as well as high schools throughout the country and the Joshua Obadiah Primary was one of the schools in that first batch.

The programme is designed for students in 6th grade and aims to share lessons on conflict resolution, bullying, goal setting, peer pressure, cyber interference and law and order.

Through a post on Facebook, PM Drew expressed his congratulations to the students and said, “I was pleased to see the pride and enthusiasm of the children who graduated from the reinstated MAGIC (Mentoring, Advising, Guiding, Instructing Children) Programme at the Joshua Obadiah Primary School.” He also lauded the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) and the coordinator of the MAGIC Programme, Ms Lyndita Powell and her dedicated team for the wonderful job they did with the students throughout the programme.

While appreciating Powell, PM Drew further stated, “The chemistry I witnessed between the children and Ms. Powell and her team speaks volumes about the bond they have forged and the values they have learned. Congratulations to the graduates and the facilitators. Well done!”

Notably, MAGIC was introduced back in 2012 in St Kitts and Nevis by the RSCNPF as part of their collaboration with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. But it was abruptly ended in 2015.

As the programme was reintroduced, Suzette Cannonier, Principal of Joshua Obadiah Primary School, noted that the school is happy with the reintroduction of the MAGIC Programme, but not only its reintroduction but the enhancement of it marks a huge achievement. He also said that the prime minister and his team deserve a special round of applause.
