Pope’s plane changes flight path to avoid hurricane

The plane flying Pope Francis to Colombia had to change its flight path to avoid Hurricane Irma.
The special Alitalia jetliner, which left Rome on Wednesday morning, was originally scheduled to fly over Puerto Rico and Venezuela before entering Colombian airspace.
According to the Reuters news agency, the revised route takes the aircraft south of Puerto Rico, flying over the islands of Barbados, Grenada, Tobago and Trinidad.
During his Apostolic visit to Columbia, Pope Francis he will also visit the cities of Villavicencio, Medellín and Cartagena before returning to Rome on the morning of 11th September.
