St Kitts Police say incident involving two tourists, police officers under investigation

Friday, 4th January 2019

The incident in which a tourist couple beat two local police officers in uniform in the lobby of a local hotel on Tuesday night and were allowed to leave St. Kitts less than 12 hours after without being charged is under investigation.

"The High Command of The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force notes, with great concern, the contents of a video that involves two visitors and two Police Officers currently being circulated in the public domain.

The High Command has launched an investigation to look into all the circumstances surrounding the arrest and release of the two visitors that occurred when two Police Officers responded to a report of an incident at the Marriot Hotel in the Frigate Bay area on Jan. 1," the police said in a statement.

The statement did not provide the names and nationalities if the two visitors.

The two are seen on the video which has been posted on social media, attacking the officers during their intervention. Both were arrested.

According to sources, the tourists should have been slapped with several charges including beating and assaulting a police officer and obstruction, but were released Thursday morning around 8 'o' clock.

Questions continue to be asked why were the two persons not charged after they were arrested and who authorised their release and departure from St. Kitts.
