Prime Minister Philip J Pierre of Saint Lucia has started an initiative which looks to rebuild the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and bring it up to speed with the island nation’s requirements.
To do so, the government of Saint Lucia has taken a significant step by initiating a project which will build a state-of-the-art detention center, to be used by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force as a replacement for the island’s sole detention facility which was demolished at the behest of the former UWP Administration in 2020.The demolition of the facility was seen as a drastic misstep taken by the previous administration which hampered the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and led to overcrowding in police stations and facilities outside the capital city.
In an attempt to control the situation, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force ended up employing a significant amount of its resources which could have been put to better use otherwise. This scenario was also responsible for straining the resources and functioning of the department.Prime Minister Pierre has come as a breath of fresh air for law enforcement personnel in the nation. His Custody Suites Project was a well-received initiative, which was rolled out for the benefit of both law enforcement personnel and citizens, in the first year of his tenure.
The new detention center is expected to be far larger than the building used previously and will be equipped with every possible facility that the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force might need. This is meant to support police operations and administrative procedures in the capital, alleviating the strain on the department and its personnel. The facility will also house 8 holding cells in total and be supported by cutting edge technology.
Thus, Custody Suites Project is well along its way on its mission of bringing an end to the inconveniences faced by law enforcement personnel and citizens alike over the span of the past 3 years.Latest
