Nevis Garden Competition 2024 returns to promote healthy eating practices, know deets

St Kitts and Nevis: The Ministry of Tourism of Nevis is all set to host the exciting Nevis Garden Competition 2024 which is aimed at fostering local community engagement and collaboration, promoting healthy eating practices while enhancing the island’s aesthetic beauty.
According to the information, the competition will have three main categories including the Ornamental Plants, Vegetable Gardens and Fruit Trees. The judging for the event will be held during the week of July 8 to 12 while the winners will be announced on Friday, July 19, 2024.
The competition is open to the participants of households (private residents) and business institutions.
According to the rules and guidelines of the Garden Competition, all residents of Nevis are eligible to participate along with institutions and businesses and judges cannot enter this competition nor have anu of their properties entered in the name of any ither people.
The Ministry of Tourism announced the following rules for the Nevis Garden Competition:
Vegetable Garden The vegetable garden should include at least three of the following five types of crops:- Leafy green vegetables: lettuce, spinach, cabbage (minimum of 12 plants)
- Condiments/Seasonings: herbs, thyne, rosemary, mint, onions (must occupy a space of a minimum of 12 square feet)
- Tubers/root vegetables: carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, yam (must occupy a space of minimum 12 square feet)
- Fruits/vegetables: tomato, okra, sweet pepper, watermelon, squash (must occupy a space of minimum 12 square feet)
- Legumes/pulses: peas, string beans (must occupy a space of a minimum 12 square feet)
- Blooms: plants with flowers
- Greenery: palms and ferns
- Uncommon plants
- Special feature/focal feature
- Attractiveness
- You are required to have a combination of at least 10 fruit trees
- Fruit trees should be at least one year old
