Jamaica provides home to family after fire tragedy: 3 sons lost, daughter sustain severe burns

The Government of Jamaica has provided the burn victim Adrianna Laing and her father, Adrian, with a new home under the new social-housing programme. The family has been provided with a two-bedroom residence which is valued around $9 million in the community of Slope, St Elizabeth.

According to the information, the Laings reportedly lost their family home in Springfield, Westmoreland to a massive fire around 16 months ago which killed Adrian’s three children while the fourth one was severely burnt and sustained third degree burns.

Adrian said that the brutal fire took away his three boys, 9-year-old Adrianno and 7-year-old twins Jorden and Jayden.

The keys of the house were handed over to the family during a social contract signing ceremony on Wednesday which saw the beneficiaries being very emotional and thankful to the government.

During the ceremony, Adrian said that god has spared his daughter and she was there with him and they just have to thank god and keep on praying.

He also said that he will never forget this moment and will remain thankful to everyone who lent a helping hand during the time of need.

In addition to this, Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness said that the citizens of the country were proud that the Laing family was a beneficiary of the new social housing programme as they deserve a proper residence after everything they experienced.

PM Holness said that he understands what the family is going through and hoped that the new residence will help to ease the burden and at least offer some comfort to the father and her daughter.

He added that the residence was completed around a month ago and is finally in a position to be handed over officially to the Laing family.

Notably, the citizens and residents of Jamaica were able to raise $40,000 for Adrianna, who survived the huge fire and sustained third degree burns. She was flown to the Joseph M Still burn centre in Atlanta, Georgia and the funds helped her to fly safely.

The young female had to undergo 18 lifesaving operations following which she thanked everyone who came to the forefront and helped her. She also remarked during the handover ceremony that she was happy that her family now has a new house.

Adrianna said that she very grateful for what the Prime Minister and the Jamaicans did for her and her father and added, “We are grateful to have been given this house, and we will take good care of it.”

Not only this, but the Member of the Parliament for Westmoreland Western, Morland Wilson said that he was thrilled to see the fire victims in their new home. Adrian and Arianna resided in Wilson’s constituency following the tragedy.

He said that his heart is filled with joy and he was one of the first people at Laing’s home and he saw the fire tragedy and immediately called the PM to help the family with a new house and added, “And here we are today. That commitment has been delivered.”
