Dominica police confiscate fake Eastern Caribbean banknotes

ECCB has issued another warning

Friday, 22nd June 2018

Police in Dominica have confirmed they have confiscated a sum of counterfeit Eastern Caribbean dollar banknotes.

The Criminal Investigations Department have not confirmed how much was found or any additional details.

The Caribbean region has already seen a number of warnings this year about fake money being circulated.

The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) has advised members of the public to be on the lookout for counterfeit notes.

How can you tell if the money is real?

The ECCB urges the public to note the security features of genuine Eastern Caribbean dollar notes, which include:

1. A security thread with text reading “ECCB” is incorporated into the paper. The thread can be seen clearly through the paper. 2. A serial number printed vertically on the left-hand side and horizontally on the right-hand side of the notes. No two notes of the same denomination bear the same serial number. 3. On the front left-hand side, a watermark of Queen Elizabeth II can be seen when the note is held to light. A watermark highlight that reads “ECCB” can also be seen clearly when the note is held up to light. 4. An image of several fishes, printed with special ink, which glows, is at the centre of the back of the note. 5. Genuine bank notes are printed on special paper which gives them a unique feel.

Individuals who think they may be in possession of EC counterfeit notes, should report the matter to the police station nearest them.
