Malawi announces visa waivers for 11 Caribbean nation, including Dominica

The Government of Malawi, an Eastern African country, has announced visa waivers for 11 Caribbean nations including Dominica. The list announced on Wednesday, comprised 48 countries from across the world and it comes as a huge relief for the citizens of these nations, who can now travel easily for business or leisure purposes. The visa waivers have been extended to the following Caribbean countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as Trinidad and Tobago. Applicable from February 2024, citizens of these countries do not require a visa to travel to Malawi. This decision is being hailed by people all around the Caribbean as it would have positive impacts while attracting more investment to all these 11 countries. It also showcases that major countries in Africa and elsewhere are seeing the Caribbean region as a stable, reliable friend and partner. These visa waivers will benefit all 48 countries around the world, especially the Caribbean countries, allowing them to boost international ties with this East African country. In addition to this, the list also includes names of Malawi's close ties, including the USA, the UK, France and others. According to the information, the visa waivers also aim to boost the nation's trade and tourism while strengthening international ties. As reported by an African News Website, News Invasion 24, the step was taken by the administration after the country's president, Lazarus Chakwera, announced visa waivers for some countries, including the UK and the US, in February 2023.

In addition to this, the development was also announced by the Tourism Minister of Malawi, Vera Kamtukule who hailed the President for this significant decision. She outlined, "This monumental decision isn't just about visas; it's about unleashing the untapped potential of our beloved Malawi and inviting the world to experience its wonders firsthand."
