Jamaica Labour Party celebrates its 78th anniversary

Prime Minister of Jamaica and leader of Jamaica Labour Party Andrew Holness wished people of Jamaica and his party member on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of JLP.

Jamaica: Prime Minister of Jamaica and leader of Jamaica Labour Party Andrew Holness wished people of Jamaica and his party member on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of JLP. He said, "The great Jamaica Labour Party was founded 78 years ago today, on July 8 1943, by Jamaica’s first Prime Minister and father of the nation, the Rt. Excellent Sir William Alexander Clarke Bustamante. " PM Holness stated that, Created to engender social and economic equity, the Jamaica Labour Party has remained true to its mission to elevate the people and to set Jamaica firmly on a path towards prosperity.  Remembering founder member and soul of the party, Holness said, " In a broadcasted speech in 1962, Prime Minister-Designate at the time, Sir Bustamante said, “ … we have a programme that is aimed at lifting the small man, for his time has come to have better consideration and a better life.” "Those words ring true today as the Jamaica Labour Party remains committed to the elevation and empowerment of all Jamaicans; empowerment to own your own homes, empowerment to build wealth, empowerment to have a stake in Jamaica, empowerment to own state assets, empowerment to dream and the opportunity to achieve those dreams no matter what they are. He added.  He further noted that is the commitment of the Jamaica Labour Party and as we celebrate our 78th anniversary, we thank God for His grace and guidance over the years. We remain steadfast in the pursuit of prosperity for all Jamaicans. Also, It is the current governing party, having gained 49 of the 63 parliamentary seats in the lower house of parliament (House of Representatives) in the 2020 general elections. Moreover, The Jamaica Labour Party uses a bell, the victory sign, and the colour green as electoral symbols. The JLP is a part of the Caribbean Democrat Union.
