Dominican PM Dr Roosevelt Skerrit congratulates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris

Dominica: Prime Minister of Caribbean nation Commonwealth of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit congratulated the United States' President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris for their historic victory.

Dr Roosevelt Skerrit posted on his official social media handles that within the last week, the world watched with fascination, as democracy unfolded in the United States of America.

"Today, the Commonwealth of Dominica congratulates and celebrates those who were chosen by the people, President-Elect, Joseph Biden and Vice President-Elect, Kamala Harris." wrote Skerrit on his Facebook and Twitter account on Sunday.

He added that the Caribbean region is feeling proud for this victory because Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris is an American woman with Caribbean roots. Besides this, he also added that these elections in the United States have lifted and honoured women and immigrants.

Referring to Kamala Harris' historic victory, Dominican Prime Minister stated that Ms Harris has achieved what Shirley Chisholm, another American woman with Caribbean roots, imagined possible.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit declared that there are enormous challenges and crises both national and global ahead including – COVID, climate change, inclusive economic enfranchisement, sustainable social equity and justice.

He asserted that it is now their task to bring the peace of reconciliation, the balm of healing, the promise of hope and the strength of unity.

"Your friends and neighbours in the Caribbean pledge their support," added Dr Skerrit.

The entire Caribbean region has been celebrating the victory of #BidenHarris as the Vice-President Elect Ms Kamala Harris shares her roots in Jamaica because her father was Jamaican.

Kamala Harris' is the first woman vice-president and first woman of colour to hold this prestigious position in the United States.

She often talked on the campaign way of those who had come before her, of her parents, immigrants brought to the civil rights fight in the United States — and of the ancestors who had floored the way.
