Dominica to establish a special committee for truckers: PM Roosevelt Skerrit

Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit held cordial talks with several Dominican truckers at the Goodwill Parish Hall.

He shared a Facebook post and stated, "I held cordial talks with several Dominican truckers at the Goodwill Parish Hall this morning."

He was joined by the Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy, Hon. Cassanni Laville; Minister for National Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore; Minister for Tourism, International Transport and Maritime Initiatives, Hon. Denise Charles and Chief Technical Officer in the Ministry of Public Works, Mr. Emile Lancelot.

He assured the truckers that the government was sympathetic to their plight. To address their concerns prudently and systematically, He recommended the establishment of a committee to propose fair and reasonable rates for the services they offer. Additionally, This committee will be chaired by the Minister of Public Works and comprise representatives of the truckers association, the local contractors association or grouping, representatives of two of the larger foreign owned contracting firms on Dominica and an internationally recognized and respected agency.

"The committee will start its work on Monday, November 22nd and submit its report by December 15th," he added.

He also requested that the Committee conduct an audit of available vehicles and capacity in Dominica to guide the government's granting of permission to contracting firms to import vehicles or labour into Dominica. He gave his commitment to the truckers to address their concerns in an expeditious manner.

On this announcement, one of the residents said, "Good quick respond to the cry of the truckers; my prayer is that all prayers are answered for the truckers and their family. You are a true leader kudos, may the presence of the Lord continue to cover you, your cabinet and your family, not forgetting the ppl of Dominica Nuff love and respect.."
