It is well known that the general elections of Commonwealth of Dominica are due by the year 2020 and national political fronts are bleeding heart to fill vote banks in the race of staking hold on the government. United Workers Party (UWP) raised an issue alleging the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) – which holds the government – of embezzlement in funds from the CBI programme.
The country Dominica popularly known as the nature island of the Caribbean is well recognised and received compliments from several auditors for its transparent conduct. Moreover, the country stood top in the list of 13 countries which provide CBI (Citizenship by Investment) programme as per report released by the CBI Index. Recently, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) a multinational professional services network also released a comprehensive report on the functioning of CBI and its usage to rebuild Dominica after the natural catastrophe Hurricane Maria in 2017 and tropical storm Erika in 2015.
The allegations of opposition were nullified after the reports released by independent firms, following which social media, specifically Facebook was flooded with the trolls about Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit and Leader of Opposition Lennox Linton. Supporters of both political fronts are using the tool of social media to reach out to the people and spreading information and misinformation.
WIC News cannot post the actual picture of the troll due to our policy. In the troll cartoon version of PM Roosevelt Skerrit is shown beating up the leader of opposition Lennox Linton with sticks.
The caption of the post read “I am fed up of you keep going on asking the same question about the whereabouts of this one trillion gazillion dollars that never existed. I have given you an answer but tet ou toe wed ou paka tan. Well if you can’t listen then feel some blows,” the text was uploaded attached to a troll video in which PM Skerrit can be seen hitting Lennox Linton.
Not only this, there are number of trolls being posted on the social media regarding both leaders lashing on each other. The followers of Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit are targeting Lennox Linton terming allegations baseless and pro-political mob-bait formula, while UWP section is targeting DLP for CBI money.
The date of general elections is not yet announced but the political atmosphere of the country is already heating up. DLP is still launching its candidates for all 21 parliamentary seats whereas UWP has already launched its 21 candidates.
