Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit met with the residents of Calibishie constituency on Wednesday and addressed the concerns about construction plans for the new primary school. The new Calibishie Primary School is one of the six schools that will be constructed under the China Aid Project for the rehabilitation of schools post-Hurricane Maria.

While sharing insights about the meeting on its official Facebook account, Dr Skerrit said that after consultation with the residents of Calibishie, the administration will now proceed with the proposed plans for construction, ensuring the playing field is extended and that a farm access road, located behind the property is rebuilt.

PM Skerrit also announced that the Government of Dominica will move to acquire additional lands for the playing field extension.

He also reiterated his promise of maintaining open communication with Calibishie residents during this process and ensured them that their children could quickly access learning in a safe and sound environment in their own community.

Following the meeting, Dr Skerrit said that he thought that it went very well and added that the work will soon start on the school with the contractors have already taken the possession of the site.

According to PM Roosevelt Skerrit, the plan was to build the school at the front of the land and the playing field at the back. He also explained to the residents that the Government would have to acquire land to allow Calibishie to have a much bigger playing field than they presently do.

The glimpses of this brief but significant meeting was shared by the Prime Minister on its official Facebook account in which he was seen explaining the residents the proposed plan of the upcoming school.

“This I have never seen before open communication with residents. It only takes a leader with a vision to do this. Labour will always be the best choice,” wrote a user named Annette Poponne. Another user named Melaine said, “You are indeed the most humble at heart, and it's good that you are always willing to listen to the residents of our country.. well-done, PM.”
