Barbados confirms 161 new cases, 1 COVID-19 death of unvaccinated

Barbados: A total of 161 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Barbados on Wednesday following the 2,205 tests conducted by Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

According to government data, these news 161 cases of COVID-19 comprises 67 males and 94 females, notably 43 persons are under the age of eighteen and the other 118 in the elder category. There is a total of 896 persons under isolation in the country.

The national death Count now stands at 63, with the latest casualty of a 53-year-old man who died on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. The new case who succumbed to COVID-19 was unvaccinated and already had comorbidities.

Since March 2020, Barbados has reported 7,065 cases of COVID-19 infections, which comprises 3499 males and 3566 females. To carry out testing, the public health laboratory has conducted about 302,684 tests across the country.

Apart from this, the government is also providing vaccination against the COVID-19, which has covered over 128,969 persons with the first dose and 99,921 persons are now fully vaccinated against the virus, which translates to 36.9% of the total population being immunised against the COVID-19.

There were 898 persons in isolation. Of these, 625 patients (69 per cent) were unvaccinated, and 115 (13 per cent) were fully vaccinated. Of those fully vaccinated, one person was in secondary isolation, and the other 114 were in tertiary isolation.

There were 42 partially vaccinated persons. Two of them were in primary isolation, one was in secondary isolation, and the remaining 39 in tertiary isolation. The number of unvaccinated persons in primary isolation was 25; 30 were in secondary isolation, and 570 in tertiary isolation.
