Bahamas: Pirate’s Cove denies allegations of failing to assist American women after rape

Bahamas: The officials at the Pirate's Cove have denied allegations made by the American tourists being drugged and raped on the property and not being assisted afterwards. According to the resort authorities, the surveillance footage from the 16 cameras on the property conflicts with the alleged victim's account of the incident.

They said upon further review of the CCTV footage, they found that most of the statements made were not true. The authorities claim that the victims were provided with all the help they needed but they themselves were not ready in taking any kind of help.

They also said that due to the ongoing investigation into the incident, they will not release the footage to the general public.

The American tourists who visited the Bahamas on a cruise accused that they were refused rape kits and medical attention by local authorities, but this claim has also been denied by police officials, which further stated, "Alleged victims denied medical attention." While contradicting the statements of Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson, the police authorities of The Bahamas stated that they were offered emergency medical services, which was declined, following which they signed a waiver and then for their cruise in a private vehicle.

The police also claimed that they boarded the Carnival Cruise and provided a sexual assault kit as well as a hospital form to the medical doctor onboard the vessel and also got signed statements from the victims.

In addition to this, Pirates Cove said that local authorities and paramedics were called to the incident site, and Pirates Cove management also assisted in identifying the two alleged suspects.

Additionally, it is also being said that the victims were also assisted in going back to their cruise ship.

The alleged victims, however, had a different version of the events. Property officials added that accusations of any kind are always thoroughly investigated by management, and when warranted, the organization calls in the local authorities. Pirates Cove added that when the assault was reported to staff, their employees and management took swift action to assist the women and to ensure their safety.

They added that they have a zero-tolerance policy for fraternizing with guests or behaving in a manner that is unsafe.

"While there's an active police investigation underway, the company says they've terminated the employment of the two accused as the behaviour they say seen on that tape by management indicates, at a minimum, that they violated the zero-tolerance policy," said Pirate's Cove.

As this matter continues to make international headlines, the women have also reportedly launched a GoFundMe account asking for financial assistance under the heading, 'Dream Vacation Turned Nightmare'.
