A magistrates court in Antigua and Barbuda has stopped a burial just hours before it was due to take place, according to reports.
The Antigua News Room is reporting that former Ministry of Telecommunications employee Lancelot Riley, who died aged 59, was set to be laid to rest before authorities stepped in.A court order was issued after some family members became concerned that the funeral proceedings were advancing too quickly, reports say.
No autopsy was initially conducted but now will need to be completed before Mr Riley can be buried.
Proper procedure
Despite the delay in the deceased man’s burial, family members held a memorial service earlier this week.
Authorities are investigating why the “proper procedure was not followed” in passing information of the death to police, especially as the circumstances “appeared unnatural”.
WIC News understands that Mr Riley died hospital on 7 June after apparently hitting his head in a fall.Latest
