35th edition of the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is all set to begin on Wednesday and will feature largest fleet since 2014
Antigua and Barbuda: The 35th edition of the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is all set to begin on Wednesday. The event promises an unforgettable experience while featuring some of the best yachts from across the world. The regatta will celebrate like-minded people coming together to share their passion for racing stunning classic & vintage yachts in superb sailing conditions.

The event will feature a mix of sports, traditions, maritime heritage and camaraderie. The onshore events will take place at Nelson’s Dockyard which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and will be complemented by racing off the south coast of the island.

This year’s event will also boast the largest fleet of classic boats since 2014 which will range from the 177 foot Chronos and Rhea to the 29 foot Phoebe of Fowey. Also, the oldest yacht Galatea, dating back to 1899 and the youngest built in 2014 Chloe Giselle will be part of the event.

Other notable yachts will include the 114-foot Saharet of Tyre, Nordwind, 115-foot Eros, the Alvei, Bolero, Charm 3, The Blue Peter, Adventurer and local Carriacou Sloops.

The organisers said that Wednesday afternoon would witness a flurry of preparations in Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua before the Concours d’Elégance judging, while the racing will kick off on Thursday continuing through Sunday with a single-handed race on Monday. The winners at Monday’s awards ceremony will get a barrel of English Harbour Rum.

The event is a magical combination of serious racing and will comprise of laid back Antiguan hospitality, plenty of rum, sunshine as well as a great camaraderie in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

This international regatta will also bring together over 60 yachts to complete across four days of racing as people will gather from across the world to share the passion of sailing class, traditional and vintage yachts.

The visitors to this Caribbean regatta will be enjoying a party atmosphere in English Harbour throughout the event.
