Ministry of Health, Dominica organised a press briefing to give an overview of coronavirus in the country where the national epidemiologist Dr Shalauddin Ahmeh stated that currently, two COVID-19 patients are in a coronavirus health centre of the country.
The national epidemiologist added that the total number of positive patients in Dominica is 20. However, the total active cases are only two and 39 contacts have been identified so far while 22 have already tested negative, 17 results are still awaited.
Mr Ahmeh gave a statistical overview of coronavirus cases in Dominica where he stated that over 2077 people were tested for the virus and 2057 had tested negative while seventeen PCR testing reports are yet to come.
Dr Shalauddin added that both the patients are asymptomatic and currently being treated at the COVID-19 health facility in Dominica.
Dominica resumed all its international flight services from different countries on August 07 by following strict health guidelines where travellers arriving from hotspots are required to get PCR testing done 72-hours prior to their arrival on the island.
Besides this, the rules are a little lenient for travellers coming from CARICOM travel bubble that categorises countries on the basis of low risk, medium risk and high risk of virus.
Where travellers from low-risk countries are not required to bring their PCR test results along; however, they are screened with a rapid-test after their arrival at the airport or seaport.
Any person who tests positive in the rapid testing is quickly shifted to a government quarantine facility on traveller's cost, after this procedure a PCR testing is done and positive patients are shifted to government coronavirus health-centre.
The small island nation had recovered all its eighteen positive patients, but since the borders are reopened, two new active coronavirus cases emerged. The government is following strict protocols and guidelines to lower the number of cases as there are no recorded coronavirus deaths so far in the country.
