Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica has announced to assist Bahamas with hundred thousand US Dollars.
In a press briefing Deputy Prime Minister Reginald Austrie said that two years ago Dominica faced a similar situation like what is being faced by the Bahamas and Bahamas was the first country to come out to help the Nature Island, Dominica also stands with the Bahamas in a situation like this. He said that Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has been in touch with the PM of Bahamas and he has decided to assist the Bahamas with one hundred thousand US Dollars.
Notwithstanding he said that “We as a country would love to send out our sympathies to the situation taking out at the Bahamas and the people of Dominica stand in solidarity to help the people of the Bahamas.”
The Bahamas is suffering from a natural catastrophe of the destroying hurricane Dorian. Which has caused “extensive damage” across the Bahamas, according to the Red Cross which warned that as many as 13,000 houses may have been severely damaged or destroyed.
“We don’t yet have a complete picture of what has happened,” Sune Bulow, head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Emergency Operation Centre in Geneva, said in a statement.
“But it is clear that Hurricane Dorian has had a catastrophic impact,” he said, adding that “we anticipate extensive shelter needs, alongside the need for short-term economic support, as well as for clean water and health assistance.”
But IFRC said that up to 13,000 houses may have been severely impacted.
