‘Wolves in sheep’s clothing’: Is PM talking about cabinet?
Timothy Harris under pressure over Europe bribery scandal
Saturday, 26th May 2018
Political pundits are questioning if recent comments made by St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Timothy Harris regarding “wolves in sheep clothing” were directed at his cabinet colleagues amid rumours of internal conflict since the Peter Virdee alleged bribery scandal broke.
Dr Harris made the comments at a gathering in the heart of his constituency, Tabernacle, on Sunday.
"You see some of them who of hustling they better understand one man in the land with the grace of God will determine election is Timothy Harris. If they want it tomorrow I will win in number 7! How many of them are ready?! Wolves in sheep clothing, many are they and as you mature you understand the nature of life. It is the work of the people that I have done so well which gave me confidence in 2015 to literally abandon my constituency and go in east, in west, in central, in 4, in 6, everywhere to deliver the seats for Unity. I did that! Ask the candidates who else were there, who else were there?! So when the wolves in sheep clothing think that they are ready….aah.
"So when some of them come with they mischief well Timothy only one. A one I be nuh, a one I be nuh? Is throughout the length and breadth of the country I mobilize voters into action. Patches will tell you. So if people meet they have a right to meet, if people meet on a boat, let them meet on a boat. Me nuh to see wid dat. For I ain’t never as the leader of Team Unity organized my leadership on the basis of mistrust nor fear.”
Opposition leader, former Prime Minister Denzil Douglas expressed his views on Dr Harris’ comments, and again called on the cabinet ministers of the Team Unity coalition to call for the prime minister to resign.
“We condemn Prime Minister Harris for coming to the public last Sunday, May 20th, in the open at Tabernacle village with hostility and hurling insults and abuse to some of his own cabinet colleagues, parliamentarians, and several founding members of his PLP, architects of Team Unity and fear minded citizens who are simply interested in a decent name and image of our country and accountability, transparency, openness and integrity for those who serve publicly here in St Kitts and Nevis. We therefore submit again that the stage is now set for Queen’s Counsel Wilkin, for the press, and for civil society to join with the citizens of our country to call on Prime Minister Harris to do the right thing and resign and we ask his cabinet colleagues to assist in this regard by their collective action.”
Prime Minister Harris said Dr. Douglas is using the bribery and corruption innuendos to cause a rift in the Cabinet, hoping to get back into office through the back door.
