Trinidad and Tobago: All places of worship allowed to open from Monday at 25% capacity

Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Dr Keith Rowley declared that places of worship in the country would open from Monday 06 September 2021 onwards. He said the permission is also given to operate at 25% of capacity.

Dr Keith Rowley stated that the church or other religious services should be limited to only one hour, and people must exercise extreme caution. All attendees are required to wear face masks, maintain social distancing and sanitize their hands before entering the places of worship.

He also called upon the leadership of shrines to encourage the participants to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. PM said parents must also get their children vaccinated as Pfizer doses are approved to be administered in every 12-year-olds and above.

The government had closed all places of worship after the country started to record an extensive number of coronavirus cases on a daily basis. After the closure, people were mostly attending virtual church services.

The decision is being welcomed by all religious communities of the country. People have show confidence in the government's decision and also assured to adhere to health protocols. Some people stated that the government must allow 50% occupancy at religious places.

Prime Minister also stated that the government is planning to reopen bars, restaurants in the coming weeks.
