Torrential downpours cause floods in southern France and northern Itlay, leaving hundreds displaced

Some parts of northwest Itlay and southeastern France are on high alert following the top-level warnings for life-threatening flooding and storms across the region.

Two people are missing since the torrential downpours in France, while at least two others were wounded and hundreds of homes flooded. More than 200mm of rain was received in some parts of the country during the weekend.

Several cities had to be evacuated due to the risk of flooding.

Le Luc recorded 105mm rain in the 24 hours followed 125mm of rain in the previous 24 hours.

Nice, had 73mm of rain on Saturday- the average rainfall for the entire month of November is 94mm.

In Biot, a little further to the southwest, local authorities asked the residents to remain indoors.

On Saturday evening, more than 4000 households were without electricity in the Alpes-Maritimes and Var, according to the French power company Enedis.

The weather monitoring agency Meteo-France has now downgraded the warnings from red to orange. Puy-de-Dome department has also been put on Orange alert for floods.
