Guyana Flooding: President Ali interacts with locals, shows support

Prime Minister of Guyana Dr Irfan Ali recently went out to making public visits where he reached out to the residents of Number 2 and Canal Number two Belle West and Patentia where.

During the recent visit, President met the locals and listened to their genuine concerns regarding their constituencies. He also discussed the government strategies and brought relief to the people who have been impacted by the recent flooding across the country.

Minister of Education, the Honourable Priya Manickchand and Minister within the Ministry of Public Works the Deodat Indar, along with Head of the Private Sector Commission, Mr Paul Cheong and representatives from the National Drainage Irrigation Authority (NDIA) had accompanied the President on the Region Three visit.

As per government figures, more than 6,900 households throughout Guyana have been severely impacted by the recent flooding in the past few weeks.

Guyanese officials stated they had given 15,000 bags of food and hygienic supplies and had opened houses to support families that had been driven out of their homes. Five of the eight government shelters were filled as of Wednesday, administrators announced.

The government stated that $50,000 had been donated by Exxon Mobil, which started to sell the first loads of Guyanese oil in the 2020 year after performing a bet on the country’s offshore oil supply.

“We are still monitoring the rainfall across Guyana, and we remain committed to visiting communities all over Guyana to see the impacts of the flooding and whether the water is falling and what further support we can give to those areas,” Mr. Phillips stated during a visit this week to the national gymnasium
