The devices sent to Clinton and Obama were discovered by technicians, who screen mail sent to the former US officials.

The Secret Service said the package addressed to the Chappaqua, N.Y., home of Clinton and former US president Bill Clinton was recovered late Tuesday (October 23). The package sent to Obama’s Washington home was intercepted early Wednesday (October 24), authorities said.

"Both packages were intercepted prior to being delivered to their intended location. The protectees did not receive the packages nor were they at risk of receiving them," US secret service said in a statement.

The Time Warner building in New York was also evacuated due to a package. CNN, which is located in the Time Warner building, evacuated its newsroom over the incident, CNN president Jeff Zucker confirmed in a statement.

The suspicious package was discovered in the CNN's mailroom, FBI special agent in charge confirmed on Wednesday. Officials say the device appeared to be live.

Speaking in Florida on Wednesday, Clinton said her family was "fine, thanks to the men and women of the Secret Service who intercepted the package addressed to us long before it made its way to our home.”

Earlier on Monday, a bomb was discovered from the mailbox of billionaire George Soros, New York police has confirmed.  Soros has been a frequent target for criticism by right-wing groups due to his support for liberal activities.
