Dominica plans to renew work visas of Haitians: PM Roosevelt Skerrit

Roseau, Dominica: Commonwealth of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that his government plans to commence regularization of work licenses to Haitian nationals in the coming weeks.

As Haitian nationals living in Dominica have increased, the government of the country is now moving ahead with securing their rights.

“Our Haitian brothers and sisters who are here and who have been serving for their work licenses to be renewed, we are seeing forward to commencing the regularization of those work permits in the coming weeks,” Prime Minister explained.

Dr Skerrit added that the Minister of National Security and Home Affairs would indicate the circumstances under which those work permits will be granted, “and we look forward to doing this.”

Prime Minister Skerrit mentioned earlier in an edition of his weekly Anou Palay programme that there are many Haitians who have been outstanding persons in the community, “they have done great good in our country, while there are some who are bent on violating the law.” he added on Sunday.

Furthermore, he added that Dominica is not just an island to itself, but it is also part of the global security design, it is the government's obligations to secure the nation.

PM Skerrit stated Haitian citizens are greeted to visit Dominica, but they must leave legally through the ports they came into the country.
