CSG Patricia Scotland interacts with Eastern African Association business group
Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland on Thursday interacted with the Eastern African Association business group about strengthening commonwealth trade and investment. During the discussions, she reaffirmed the Commonwealth's steadfast commitment to supporting governments, businesses and people of East Africa to thrive and unleash their full potential. She stated that East Africa is a region close to her heart.

"I'm delighted that CHOGM 2022 will take place in Rwanda in a few days. With trade high on the agenda, the Business Forum will provide an opportunity for the UK and regional investors to deepen ties and identify new opportunities," stated the CSG Patricia Scotland.

The official opening of the CHOGM will take place on Friday, June 24th, and the main high-level sessions of Heads will take place on Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th. Four Forums, ministerial meetings, side events, and other activities precede them.

Leaders from the Commonwealth will visit Rwanda to reaffirm their shared values and agree on actions and policies to better the lives of its citizens. The Commonwealth Secretariat's activity is guided by the decisions made at CHOGM.

The Commonwealth heads of government meeting were earlier scheduled for 2020; however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed. In this year's meeting CHOGM will also vote to elect the Commonwealth Secretary General. Notably, Patricia Scotland was the first female to hold the position, and she is also the second person from the Caribbean to serve as the CSG.
