COVID wave in Antigua and Barbuda: 468 new cases reported

Saint John's: The Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda recorded 468 additional cases of the COVID-19 virus on February 7, 2022. The data was shared by the Ministry of Health in the daily COVID-19 update report. Arrival of these new COVID infections hiked the count of active cases to 571, of which a total of 9 individuals are at present in the hospital facilities, and 562 have isolated themselves, as per the statics of the health ministry's report. Of these nine hospitalized cases, two (2) severe, one (1) moderate and six (6) are mild. Two (2) COVID-19 related deaths were recorded at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre on February 5, 2022. There are a total of 6,616 people who have beat the contagious COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in Antigua and Barbuda. The Health ministry's report notes that to date, a total of 134 individuals have lost their lives to the deadliest mutant in Antigua and Barbuda. Since the novel coronavirus outbreak emerged in the Caribbean island, a total of 7,321 confirmed infections of COVID has been recorded by the healthcare facilities. The ministry notified that nine hundred and sixty-two (962) samples were processed from a backlog of samples at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, out of which 468 turned out to be the positive results. Vaccination statics of Antigua and Barbuda: More than 124,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered at numerous vaccination sites across the country. Till now, there are a total of 2,636 persons in the Caribbean island country who are partially vaccinated by taking their first jabs of the WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines, the report's data highlights. On the other hand, there are a total of 60,745 individuals in Antigua and Barbuda who have taken their required number of the COVID-19 vaccine jabs and are now fully inoculated against the deadliest viral disease.
